Departmental Profile

The Department of Nutrition has been started in our college since 2002 as Nutrition General Course. The honours course has been started since 2008. The current major thrust teaching area of the department includes Human Nutrition, Nutritional biochemistry, Nutritional physiology, Food Microbiology, sport nutrition, space nutrition, entrepreneurship development, Patient counselling, nutrigenomics, proteomics, metablomics, fermented foods etc. It is well known that Nutrition, as an academic discipline, is very much important branch of Biological science as well as a diminutive part of Medical science also to lead the community into a better life style. So, being a large number of higher educated nutrition students can take responsibility to increase knowledge about proper nutrition from the existing recourses of our country and they would be a fighter against malnutrition and nutrition related diseases. At present the Department of Nutrition has nearly 60 students with seven (07) faculty members. Faculty members involve in research in functional foods development for management of diseases, proteomics and food safety.

Course & Programme:

The department offers B.Sc Hons. & B.Sc General Courses following the CBCS syllabus of Vidyasagar University, Midnapore.  
Training Partner:
Department of Nutrition is now FOSTAC Training Partner of FSSAI provide Certificate in Advance Manufacturing and Food Safety Supervisor.

Alumni & Placement:

Our alumni members range from members pursuing higher education in different universities as well as those placed in several hospitals, nursing homes as a Dietician, Epidemiologist, guest teachers in various colleges.
Extracurricular activities:
Students prepared poster regarding nutrition awareness and invited the all stakeholder of this college to visit the posters. This programme we celebrated during 7 days from 01.09.2018 to 07.09.2018 as Nutrition Week in every year.

Field work:

Diet survey and nutrition awareness conducts every year in the villages surrounding college.

Future Plan:

1. Introduction of P.G Course in M.Sc in Food Science and Nutrition from the session 2020-21

2. Establishment of Research Centre in Natural Sciences from the session 2020-21.

3. Proposal submission to West Bengal Department of Biotechnology for BOOST-I Programme for strengthening Infrastructure to UG students.

4. Proposal submission to organize Two day National Level Seminar On The theme “Plant microbiome Underpinning Human Gut Flora: Understanding the Diversity to
Improve Human Health” on 8 th May -9 th May, 2020 To DBTCTEP, Govt. Of India and SERB, Department of Science of Technology, Govt. Of India.

5. Proposal was submitted for Extramural Project from ICMR, New Delhi.
